 FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
  • Are godparents (sponsors) required for first Communion?
No. Godparents are only required for Baptism and Confirmation. Some cultures have other traditions, but the Catholic Church does not require nor has regulations regarding godparents for first Communion.

  • Can we take pictures during the mass? What about video?
No. Professional pictures (and a run-through of Communion) is scheduled for the Saturday before first Communion. Parents and family are asked to stay in their pews for Communion so the child can reverently receive their Lord. A video of both 1st Communion masses is available for order, taken by a professional videographer.

  • What do we need to buy for our child's first Communion?
Please have them dressed and prepared for the event. Nothing else is required by the Church. In some cultures, it is customary to have white clothing, a candle, ribbons, a bible or a rosary. These mementos are good and will remind your child of this important moment, but they are not required.
